    Lizards

I was online when I came across good 'ol Sab on the MSN. She declared - Lizards in the house. Now, Sab has always been a good friend of lizards, way back from her days as an Aljuniedian. Good friend here means the lizards seek her out.
Now married and very pregnant, she's now in Brunei, doing what? What else? Fighting lizards.

Here's my unedited conversation with her on what else? Lizards. We discussed this creature at length and to conclude: Where you go, lizards will too.

(You will notice that Sab's not very good in err.. 'spelling'. She types faster than she can think. But if you think this is bad, wait till you read her blog. It will drive anyone mad trying to make sense of it. Me? I'm used to it. Immuned.)

    dva:Haven™:

    lizard follow u to brunei?
dva:Haven™:did u manage to molest one, as i did?
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
    its BRuneian lizard
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
yuk i hope i never ever see one. let alone touch one
[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: i dont knwo how to keepthem away from the house
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
i just found two in the bedroom
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
and i switched on all the lights in the house just because of the stupid lizards.
    dva:Haven™:
where were they exactly in the bedroom?
    dva:Haven™:
    on your bed? mating?
    dva:Haven™:
how diff is bruneian lizard from an sg one? or for that matter, a buangkokian?
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: so they will do that running thing
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
    which i really hate
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
    thats sck
    dva:Haven™ :
u prefer to have a lizard to SIT STILL and STARE at you rather than one that runs away from the moment they lie eyes on you?
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
no the ones in BrUnei really runs
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
will jump onto the floor and run kind
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
singapore one ...so far i haven't seen them do that
[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: they will stay at the wall at least
    dva:Haven™ :
i see that many times here .. i guess buangkokians and bruneians lizards are similar
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
i am starting to hate BRunei because of the lizards
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
    its just too prevalent
    dva:Haven™:
face it woman .. where u go, lizards will too
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
i think they sense my fear
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: i read cut onion works fro lizard
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

    dva:Haven™ :
    huh? how? share!!
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
they dont like the smell i think.
    dva:Haven™ :
u cut them and leave them in the open?
    dva:Haven™ :
    won't that attract ants??
[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: yeah. aesthetically doesn't look nice lar.
[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: yeah it will
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
but we got things for ants too
    dva:Haven™ :

[sab] AMOEBA SAB says: actually i am seriously thinking of asking uncle to shift to an apartment
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:
    somewhere high
    dva:Haven™ :
    FORGET IT
    [sab] AMOEBA SAB says:

    Cow-ing @ YCK

Oh I forgot - before we made our way to SSC, we stopped by at YCK MRT to catch the train. And we bumped into some cows - which were under survelliance.
We couldn't resist but to document this finding.

Also, on the MRT, we found out a very innovative way on how to hold or place balloons.

    Check it out.

    Science Centre

What a day today has been.

We left the house at 9plus am and didn’t get back home till almost 12 hours later. Where did we go?

    The Singapore Science Centre.

Wow, that place has truly changed, since the last time I stepped there, and that was when I was less than 12 years old. Back then, I could still remember being excited by the many exciting gadgets, screens and exhibits.

Fast forward almost 2 decades later – that place is now phenomenal. It has expanded very much greatly, houses an eco garden and even a water works play area for the young ones.

So if ever you are planning a trip down there, with children in tow, do bring extra clothes, swimsuits and towels.

We were totally unprepared of course and of course again, could not deny the boys their time to have fun AND get wet, so we stripped them as much as possible and let them run loose. Problem – how to dry them now, now that we did not bring any towel? So off I went to the souvenir shop and bought a Science Centre towel that cost a whooping $10. For a towel. A simple towel. What to do.

Entrance fees are very affordable and once we were in, there were so much to see. If you happen to be around when a show was err… showing, you are welcomed to sit inside the theatre and view it. There are so many exhibits – from genome to human body to lightning to chicks hatching. There was a station where we could find out or predict how we will look like in 10 years to come or looked like when we were babies. We had tremendous fun laughing at how hideous/cute we will be/were.

That place is humongous; you are advised to put aside at least an entire day there, to fully explore the crooks and corners. And surprisingly, even though today is a Saturday, there’s not much of a crowd – despite the fact that there were school excursions and tourists tours. I think it is because the place is so darn huge.

We left the centre around late evening, and made a stop at – where else – Jurong East Library. Hubs signed on as a premier member right there and then and we quickly grabbed some CDs.

The boys had fun but they were understand-ably tired. Pau2 almost fell asleep while eating his dinner of chicken rice – face flat on the plate.

Album SCIENCE CENTRE 07 is up for viewing. Meanwhile, here's a preview.

    The Husband (retitled)

Now that it is past 12 am, so this began yesterday.

I received an email from Whit, one of my closest friends of 21 years now (wow!). Whit is an amazing mother of 4 boys - an army. Here is what she shares with me, and with my other married girl-friends:

    THE HUSBAND*

*The original title was THE GOOD HUSBAND but I decide to omit the GOOD here, because as a Muslim, I fail to see the 'goodness' in any husband who drinks (read story to comprehend)

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company's Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks didn't taste like alcohol at all.

He didn't even remember how he got home from the party. As bad as he was feeling, he wondered if he did something wrong. Jack had to force himself to open his eyes, and the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table. And, next to them, a single red rose! Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed.

He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order, spotlessly clean. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror.

Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick:

"Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favourite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian"

He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is hot breakfast, steaming hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating.

Jack asks, "Son...what happened last night?"

"Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door.

Confused, he asked his son, "So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table waiting for me??"

His son replies, "Oh THAT!... Mom dragged you to the bedroom, and when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, "Leave me alone, I'm married!!"

    Broken Coffee Table $239.99
    Hot Breakfast $4.20
    Two Aspirins $1.38
Saying the right thing, at the right time . . PRICELESS!!!

    Pau2 Glued

Last Wednesday, in Ibu Ros' car, on the way to fetch the boys (Hubs @ soccer), I received a call.

'Ti! Adik jatuh! Kepala dia luka! Dalam!'

My sitter was screaming into my ear. I was seated - slouched in the passenger seat - and immediately sat upright.

I'll cut the story short, ok? Pau2, being the bouncing ball he always is - meaning cannot sit still for more than 10 sec, was playing a fool with a pair of house slippers 10 sizes bigger. He was running around in the living room and when suddenly he tripped and BAM!! he struck his forehead at the edge of the wall.

Brought him to the doc. His wound was deep but thank god, it was not bleeding profusely. Just a trickle. No blood pumping there. The doc, after cleaning up the wound, declared that the wound, though gapping open, was not long enough to warrant stitches. Instead he GLUED it up together.

    Yup - GLUED.

    See pictures.

    Lost in Transition

Earlier today, I had lunch with Hubs. Ayam penyet @ Tanglin Halt. The sambal is POWER to the MAX. I loved it.

Next, we drove to Tiong Bahru Plaza. Hubs needs a new pair of glasses and yup, I offered to pay for it, coz it was my pay day yesterday and it was my first full pay since my promotion and increment (since I came back to work after being missing for the first two months of the year).

So, that's what we did. We ordered a new pair of glasses for Hubs - with new TRANSITION lenses.

Fu-wooh!! Collecting next week. I love the frame.

Hubs will be in Transition soon. Hope he will not get lost though !

    Masuk Syurga

I was talking with my colleague, Cactus and we spoke on how the dark the day was - it was only 4pm yet the day outside looked like 9pm! So dark, a storm was brewing. Then Cactus was mentioning something about her mum saying how the Day of Judgement is so very near, judging from the way the world is changing - those tsunamis and stuff like that.

We both became scared - siapa yg tak takut mati? We both wondered - boleh ke kita masuk syurga?

Hubs was online. I asked him then.

    dva:Haven™ -
    ayah ...
    dva:Haven™ -
ayah .. kalau ditanya, ayah kasi tak ibu masuk syurga?
    [ayah] ®يازكاتراز says:
    kasi
    dva:Haven™ - shown d mid finger says:
    101%?

    I Touched It

I was reading Sab's blog when suddenly my eyes couldn't open. So I got up and proceeded to the bathroom.

    To brush my teeth.

Reached for the toothbrush. Run it under running water. Next the paste.

Now, all these are placed inside a clear glass mug just above the sink. And do remember that I am only back @ Buangkok 2.5 days a week.

As soon as I reached for the paste, I felt something rubbery against my fingers. Instinctively I dropped the paste.

    CLUNK!

The paste dropped into the sink. CLUNK. Followed by the biggest and palest lizard ever. The BIGGEST and PALEST.

I gasped. Screamed. Moved against the closed bathroom door. Swung around. Opened the door, with toothbrush still in my hand. I ran out.

Stood against the cabinet. Pant. Pant.

Reality struck me then. I TOUCHED A LIZARD.

ARGHH!! Ran off to the master bedroom toilet and washed my hand like never before.

    I TOUCHED A LIZARD.

Luckily it was my left hand.

    But still.

    I TOUCHED A LIZARD.

    Eww.

    Shown d Mid Finger

And now, I want relate something. Something I experienced for the first time as a new driver on the road. My nick tonight says it all – ‘shown d mid finger’.

    Ants on Keyboard

I just came home. Now, it is a Friday. Only Pau2 and Hubs are here. Imin is with Ibu Ros. Sleeping over @ Bedok.

I turned on the pc. Turned on MSN. Started to chat with Blossom.

Suddenly I sensed movement. A flicker. A rush. Somewhere below me. Just above my fingers.

And then I stared down at the keyboard.

The following MSN conversation enfolded, between me (dva:Haven) and Blossom (.erni):

dva:Haven™: i got a shock.. u know lah i balik cuma fri till sun..

    Tight & Loose

I think Hubs is putting on weight. And I like it.

However, I know he does not like it. I think he is worried. But what can you expect? He takes 2 breakfast each day for 5 days a week, plus one lunch (often carbo) and dinner with at least 2 plates of rice – minimum.

Hubs been saying his workshirts and tshirts are all getting tighter. Pants too, I think.

But if you ask me, I think he looks good. Better. Filled up. And this morning, with his crisp white work shirt and a white tshirt peeking beneath, he looks a-fab-ulous.

Some men look awful when they are plump but as for Hubs, because of his more-than-generous-height, he looks good when he is beefed up. Else, he looks like a walking stick. In fact, he used to look like one.

On the other hand, I think I am losing a couple of kg now. I’ve minimized my carbo intake – for example, like yesterday, I had lasagna for breakfast AND lunch and that’s it. No dinner.

I kinda feel light. Pants loose.

    Food on Lap

Last night, I used Hubs’ laptop @ Bedok, accessing my blog via the wireless facility at Ibu Ros’ house. It was pretty late, and Hubs left me to go to bed at around 11 plus.

While I was working on my blog, I munched a couple of crackers. Mouth itchy, that’s all.

When I was done, I packed his laptop very nicely and rolled up all the wires neatly.

This morning, while at work, I received this MSN message from him:

[ayah] ®يازكاتراز says: Ibu makan ape semalam ha?

[ayah] ®يازكاتراز says: abih screen ayah tempias keropok

    dva:Haven™: ha ha

    dva:Haven™: he he

    dva:Haven™: ho ho

    dva:Haven™: sorrrrrrrri

    dva:Haven™: makan sket jerr ..

[ayah] ®يازكاتراز says: nasib baik takde semut

[ayah] ®يازكاتراز says: makan macam kelahap... sampai tempias... relax lerrr sister

    dva:Haven™: sori brader

dva:Haven™: rem, i didnt take my dinner last nite ah

    My Two Angels (Blossom)

After reading up on my Angel entry, Blossom shares the following poem with me in her comment. I think the poem is smashing and therefore such a pity to let it sit in the comments section. So, here I am putting it up, for the benefit of those who are learned.

(Thanks so much, Blossom darling, for sharing)

    My Two Angels

I have two angels that follow me
    wherever I may go,
One of them is quick to write,
    the other one is slow.
The one who is quick to write
    is when I'm being good
the other doesn't like to write
    even when he should!

The one who doesn't like to write
is when I am being bad
he wants to hear me say "I'm sorry"
    to my mom and dad.
And when I say "I'm sorry Allah,
    I won't do that again"
he rubs away my bad deed
    marked against my name.

The one who is quick to write,
writes the good I try to do
even, when it doesn't work out right
he writes that one down too
so when I get to Paradise
    waiting there for me
will be lots of lovely presents -
oh, how happy I will be!

    Ikea Giant Courts

Have you ever had a day planned around one region?

Here's how we planned to spend our Sunday - dispose boys at Ikea, shop at Giant, lunch at Courts. Make use of all these warehouses and then tread back home for a nap before getting ready to pack up back to Bedok.

As we did a couple of weeks back, we proceeded to Ikea in the morning. Were sitting and waiting for bus no. 156, which will bring us to the bus stop in front of Sengkang MRT where we would take 27, which stops in front of Ikea. Suddenly, Hubs hit upon an idea. Why not take 43 which stops at Buangkok MRT and take 27 from there instead? There would be no need to cross the road and less walking is required.

So we took 43 and then conveniently, as we alighted from 43, 27 came along.

We put the boys at the playground at Ikea and for an hour, me and Hubs roamed Giants. I bought a couple of perfumed hand lotion - for myself and Ibu Ros. Next, after the hour is up, we collected the boys and had our lunch at Courts Box Bistro.

Unlike Ikea's restaurant, Box Bistro is HALAL! 100% halal with the certificate to show for it. HALAL! Hey Ikea, take note!

Around 1pm, all feeling tired and sleepy, Hubs succumbed to a taxi ride that brought all of us home (we were supposed to take shuttle service back to Tamp). In less than 45 minutes later, we were all down for our afternoon siesta.

I wish the weekend can go on forever - time with the boys and Hubs is so limited!

    Twins?

    SCREEEEECH!

    I forgot. Again.

I wanted to bring this up. My boys - one aged 4 and the other aged 3 (almost, in June then official lah), are often mistaken as twins. Very often. Very very very often. By friends. By strangers.

Don't know why. To me, they, of course, do not look the slightest alike. Even very unlike me or Hubs. Sure, they do dress alike most times, but apart from that, nothing's alike. Interest (one into books and computers, the other into cars and more cars) vary as per sun and moon.

However, many people conclude, and this include mostly siblings and relatives:

Imin looks like Hubs and even his temperament is like Hubs, while Pau2 is just like me, or at least look like me when I was that age and according to Hubs, his temperament is 101% alike to mine.

    Go figure.

    Shoes

One more thing to add ..  I just received my monthly allowance. Yee-ha!!

Remember the time I said I bought 3 pairs of shoes - black, blue and purple - last Metro sale at Expo. Well, since then, I have been telling myself NOT TO BUY anymore. I mean, 3 pairs is aplenty, in addition to the other tens of shoes I already have.

    But, nooooooo.

I have always wanted a white pair of shoes. Or at least I thought I do. I still think I do, before what develops further. And I have been stopping myself from buying one.

But with what I have just received that day, I couldn't help it! On the way to NTUC yesterday, I bought myself a new pair of shoes - WHITE!

Sigh. I make shoes companies rich.

(On a different note, the other day, this girl by the name of MONA commented this - how come on your Friendster, at least two people are saying that you like to 'take their shoes away'? Ha ha, it then strike to me, right there and then, that it was true. I just simply love shoes - IMELDA MARCOS, watch out! - and I like to try different types each day. If you go to http://www.friendster.com/dvahaven, you will see an x-colleague saying about me using her slippers and my niece saying that I often use her (and Mom's) shoes. All these are true.. ha ha. I did all those, I admit. I love shoes. I can't help it. Shoes are my weakness.)

    'ZEE'

Ah yes, before I forget .. again.. yesterday.. hey, wait a minute, it's Sunday already. Hmm. ok, last Friday then. Yes, last Friday.

Last Friday, Ibu Ros bought me a hanging mobile for my err.. mobile. It's those alphabets joined together to form a word. Mine is ZEE. Nice. I like it very much. I removed the old hanging mobile, which was a Lightning McQueen miniature red car from CARS, the movie and quickly adorn my mobile with the new hanging err.. mobile.

    Orchard Road

The morning started with a good, hard game of badminton - between me and Hubs. A good 30 mins that left us sweating, panting, grunting and really, feeling like our age.

We then headed for pratas and after that, off to NTUC to stock up the fridge. Remember the unfrozen fridge. Sigh.

I never fail to amaze at the energy that my boys have. Earlier, after the badminton game, Hubs did a couple of rounds of hard running around Buangkok Walk. Imin followed soon after. And then Pau2. Next Imin. And again. And again.

From where I was seated down, trying to gain back my breathe after the badminton thrashing, I could hear Imin's TOING TOING TOING as he ran over several humps from about 5 plus metres away. He came back from his run, full of sweat on his face but not the slightest indication that he was tired at all. AT ALL. And then he ran again. Around and around the track. Pau2 followed suit. Even on the trip back from NTUC, he and his brother were jumping up and down.

    Me? I could barely walk.

Mid-afternoon, we all took an hour nap to recharge. Or at least, I hoped so.

The boys were, as usual, at their peak when I heard them playing in the living room after their nap. As usual, they were awake before me and Hubs (who was still in slumberland beside me in our room). One thing good about my boys is that, they never disturb us when they wake up and find that we are still zzz away. They would do their own things - Pau2 with his cars and Imin with his books.

But of course, when they play together, the combination of their voices can tear the roof down. Especially when Hubs and me never close the door to our room.

Late afternoon, we all went down to Orchard. Wanted to check out the new Centrepoint building and the newly renovated Robinsons. We heard the entire L6 is dedicated to children. It would be heaven for the boys who go crazy around toys.

Another thing good about my boys is that, when they look at toys and when I tell them that we are not purchasing any toys for the moment, they would accept and obey. No tantrums. No insistance. So far. Phew. Which is why we never hesitant to bring them to toys' departments or shops or retailers.

As usual, the boys liked the journey better then the destination. Why? Because we took buses and MRTs. Public transport.

Centrepoint was different from the way I remembered it. Heck, Orchard Road was a total new area to me. Remember I said before, you put me in Orchard and I was able to get myself lost there, despite having worked in that area a couple of years back?

We went to Robinsons and after a couple of rounds, failed to get to L6. The highest was L5. Apparently, they had hidden the access to L6 on L5. Serious. Really hide the escalator. So very dumb.

And the level was a major disappointment. Very little variation. Very small. What level? Looked like an attic to me. Sheesh.

It began to rain while we were there, and so we decided to have dinner at McDonald's. Now, what a total transformation! Very chic ah, the new restaurant (is McDonald's a restaurant? a fast food restaurant right?).

Boys gobbled up the nuggets in less than 10 mins.

We decided to tour Orchard Road - Hubs wanted to bring the boys to see the aquarium at Wisma Atria. Really ah, what's the big deal about this aquarium anyway? It's been like that since day one. What's so special? It's small, circular and hardly anything inside change much last I seen it, and that was dino years ago. In fact, even the lift at Wisma has an AQUARIUM signage next to the level it was on. I really do not see the big deal here.

Anyways, on the way to Wisma, we walked along Taka and came across some Civil Defence and other uniformed groups exhibition. It was quite fun. And nice souvenior too - a hanging mobile. There was even a robot on err.. tank tyres? We also came across buskers in all sorts of variations. Half-naked men on drums, golden alive statues...

Hmm.. once in a while, coming down to Orchard Road, was quite entertaining.

Reached home close to 10. I prepared dinner for Hubs while he put the boys to sleep.

Tomorrow will be another packed day - or so we plan. Same agenda as the previous week - IKEA, GIANT and COURTS.

    Time to zzz now. Ciao.

    14 April

    Isya'

Earlier on .. actually, just JUST now, Blossom shared something with me.

I am adding it here so that it will act as a reminder for me. And hopefully, for you too :)

sohih muslim : Bk 4, Number 1333: 'A'isha reported: The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) one night delayed (observing the 'Isya' prayer) till a great part of the night was over and the people in the mosque had gone to sleep. He (the Holy Prophet) then came out and observed prayer and said: This is the proper time for it; were it not that I would impose a burden on my people (I would normally pray at this time). In the hadith transmitters by 'Abd al−Razzaq (the words are):" Were it not that it would impose burden on my people."

    Fridge Unfrozen

Earlier just now .. much much earlier, we stepped in the house, after 4 and half days of absence.

    What a smell greeted us!

Hubs was already asking the boys - who YAK? Adik YAK? Abang YAK?

Then he said: Ibu, did we throw out the rubbish last week?

    Uh-uh.

It happened before - us forgetting to empty the garbage and the garbage actually bred maggots! Eeuuwwkk!*

I was putting away my bags and stopped in mid air.

    Oh no. Not again!

Then, came Hubs' voice: The fridge lah. It was OFF!

    OMIGOD. OMIGOD. OMIGOD. OMIGOD.

Apparently, the main switch for the fridge was accidentally turned off. And stayed off for the past 4.5 days!!

Hubs opened the fridge door and FUHH!! all the smell came gushing out. GAG.

Chicken, ice cream, crabstick, onion, chillies, butter, beef, carrot, pasta sauce - GONE GONE GONE.

    Sigh.

Hubs had to clear up all the BAD BAD stuff, with a face mask. Smell was horrible.

Seems that tomorrow we have to make a marketing trip to NTUC.

*In case you are unaware, we only go back home on Friday nights and stayed for two nights. By Sunday evening, we go back to Bedok. Our home is literally a weekend house.
